Rotorua is a city on the southern shores of Lake Rotorua in the Bay of Plenty region of New Zealand’s North Island. It is the seat of the Rotorua District, a territorial authority that includes Rotorua and several nearby towns. Most of the Rotorua District lies within the Bay of Plenty Region, with a substantial southern section and a small western section in the Waikato Region. Rotorua is a major destination for both domestic and international visitors. It is renowned for its geothermal activity, featuring geysers—most notably the Pohutu Geyser at Whakarewarewa—and bubbling mud pools. Main tourist attractions include: • Government Gardens, an immaculate park near the city centre that is also home to the city museum and the historic Blue Baths. • Hamurana Springs, a group of natural freshwater springs set in a beautiful reserve next to the Hamurana Golf Course. • The Lakes, with a scenic lakefront promenade from which you can view Mokoia Island.
