Varese Italy

Varese is a city and comune in northwestern Lombardy, northern Italy, north of Milan. It is the capital of the Province of Varese. MAIN TOURIST ATTRACTIONS • Palazzo e Giardini Estensi: Residence of Francis III d’Este during his rule, granted to him by Empress Maria Theresa of Austria. • Villa e Parco Mirabello: Tudor-style villa in a large park overlooking Mirabello Hill; today it houses the Archaeological Museum. • Castello di Masnago e Parco Mantegazza: 15th-century castle whose oldest part is the medieval tower, once part of defensive fortifications. Surrounded by a magnificent park, it now hosts the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art. • Villa e Parco Baragiola: Built at the end of the 19th century, it features an extensive English-style garden with special attention to botanical elements. • Villa e Parco Toeplitz. • Palace Grand Hotel: One of the most important examples of Art Nouveau in Varese, built in 1913 by architect Sommaruga.
